You want to live a life that really matters to you and makes a meaningful difference to others.
And you've been on a journey of self discovery for a while.
But you're still feeling stuck.
And you've heard it a million times already:
"Just be true to yourself."
You've tried that, but something just isn't clicking.
Sure. "Just be true to yourself" is a cliché.
It's also essential.
People who live fulfilling, meaningful, passion-filled lives know who they are, what matters to them, and how they want to contribute, and they build their lives around what works for them, not based on the expectations set out for them by others.
Being true to yourself may sound simple, but it sure isn't easy.
It takes fierce courage and faith, and it takes being willing to face the parts of yourself you'd rather not see, own the parts of yourself you'd rather disown, and trust the parts of yourself you've never trusted before.
It also takes freeing yourself from what I like to call your "culture cuffs," the ways in which your story, your family's story, your heritage, and the messages you've received from society keep you stuck, hold you back, and negatively affect your mindset, your outlook, your relationships, and your identity.
Building a life that fully reflects your passions, your perspectives, and your values can feel risky.
It can make you feel scared, isolated and vulnerable, especially if it means going against what you've been taught by your family, your community, and the culture you grew up in.
It helps to have someone in your corner.
That's where I come in...
I believe that it's only by being the author of your own story that you set yourself up to be successful and fulfilled by expressing your true potential and sharing the gifts that are uniquely yours to share.
Change your story, change your life.
Culture-Conscious coaching is about helping visionary, creative women untangle their stories from the stories imposed upon them by culture, family, and society in order to gain access to their inner wisdom, claim their personal power, and fully express their potential in their lives, work, and relationships.
This work empowers you to navigate the effects that culture has on your identity and outlook, and to find freedom, make meaning, and cultivate connection in the process. Leveraging both practical coaching techniques and my background in cultural memory, public history, and storytelling, culture-conscious coaching will empower you to:
- learn to understand which elements of culture serve you and which are not in alignment with your personal values.
- make informed choices about what to keep and what to change.
- uncover the roles that culture, family, and heritage play in shaping your personal narrative, your mindset, and your relationships, cultivate self-awareness, transcend limitations.
- have profound insights that help you transcend the invisible beliefs and forces that have held you back, so you can create and live a meaningful, authentic, purpose driven life.
- be empowered to make conscious choices that create freedom, momentum, impact, and fulfillment in both your personal and professional life.
My clients are often:
Immigrants and their descendants.
Expats and repats.
Women in cross-cultural relationships.
Women who are actively grappling with limitations imposed by cultural, religious, or social expectations.
Women grappling with patriarchy.
Anyone else at a cultural crossroads or who feels like a fish out of water in a new cultural context.
Clients often find me in times of transition.
These are ideal opportunities for deep reflection, self-discovery, personal growth, goal-setting, healing and transformation.Together, we talk through ideas, think outside the box, and consider important history to expand your self-awareness, envision new possibilities, and determine the best ways for you to move forward.
I bring a depth of understanding, creativity, and imagination to working with clients. I am particularly skilled at making sense of seemingly disparate information, making deeper connections, illuminating patterns you may not be able to see, and bringing your attention to what's occurring using simple language and straight-forward metaphors.
How we'll work:
1. First, I'll send you a comprehensive prep-workbook full of questions to jumpstart our work together so you can start organizing your thoughts from the moment you sign up. Your answers will also help me to get to know you better and prepare us for your first session.
2. Next, we'll meet for a 75-minute discovery session (on the phone, Skype, or in Brooklyn, if possible) during which time we'll discuss your biggest challenges, and we'll establish goals for working together.
3. Then, we'll get to work, meeting and checking 2x or 4x a month, depending on the support you need (on the phone, Skype, or in Brooklyn) to dig deeper, tackle challenges, and keep you moving forward. After each session, we'll establish "homework", steps you can take between sessions to keep you moving forward.
4. Throughout our work, you'll get recordings of each session to keep and reflect on, and you'll have access to me for unlimited email support between sessions.
While I do not enforce a minimum commitment, I recommend that coaching engagements last for at least 3 months. I feel this yields the best, most consistent progress and satisfaction for my clients. After an initial three months, clients often continue to work with me on an ongoing basis.
My coaching packages and rates vary depending on the work you do and the kind of support you need. If you're not sure, that's something we can determine together during your consultation call. (Regardless of how we work together, I charge on a monthly basis, with your first payment due upon enrollment, and subsequent payments due at the start of each month)

Here's what people are saying:
I was able to fully own and go after my seemingly 'larger-than-life' dreams.
"Emily helped me to explore aspects of my dreams and desires that I had not yet fully allowed myself to explore...Through my work with Emily, I was able to fully own and go after my seemingly ‘larger-than-life’ dreams, which was liberating and healing, to say the least.”
–Indira Jerez, Innertia Project
After working with Emily, I am less worried, stressed out, overwhelmed. I just feel better!
“Emily has a way of listening... not just hearing but really listening... and then distilling the information down in the most helpful and articulate way to really get to the heart of the matter. I would ramble on about something I was going through, and Emily was able to pull out the really important pieces so I could work through them and not get dragged down by all the other stuff. She asked me questions that got to the heart of the matter, rather than focusing on the surface nonsense that I thought was the problem, and I left our sessions knowing what action I needed to take in order to move toward my goals. Emily takes the noise out of day-to-day life and provides space for you to just be who you are. After working with her, I am less worried, stressed out, and overwhelmed. I just feel better!”
Working with Emily helped me to make choices that were best for me....I feel that I have achieved so much in a very little time! I am much happier in my work now, and, as cheesy as it may sound, I feel much truer to myself....I couldn't be happier I made the investment.
"When I started working with Emily, I was feeling very unhappy and stuck. I was struggling to get my career moving, and the lack of forward motion was causing me a great deal of stress and anxiety. At first, I was hesitant, because I wasn’t really sure where the coaching would lead, but I couldn’t be happier that I made the investment! Emily asks the type of questions that allow you to figure out what you need on your own, and she is able to keep tabs on the things that are important to you. It’s like she’s keeping her fingers on the pulse of your hopes and dreams, and she encourages you to move forward towards the things you want in work and in life. Working with Emily helped me to make choices that were best for me. She helped me realize that my job wasn’t in line with my values, so a big change was that I switched jobs. I’m now in a management position, I’ve been more creative in my everyday life, and I’m heading to grad school in the fall. I feel that I have achieved so much in a very little time! I am much happier in my work now, and, as cheesy as it may sound, I feel much truer to myself. Coaching can be a tricky balance of reflection and action, but Emily has found that balance and is truly excellent at it."
